Our history

James R. Addington founded Addington Oil Company in 1932 as a Sinclair Refining Company commission agent. Kerosene was a key product when many Scott County homes did not yet have electricity. As the region changed, gasoline became increasingly important.

Following World War II, the business became a Shell Oil jobber and continued to grow. Kate B. Addington ran the company after James died in 1957, until their son joined the business after graduating in 1960.

John Christopher Kimbler joined the company in 1993. Chris, Allison, and Noah Kimbler became its owners in 2008.
